New Insight from Merrill Hoopengardner on the New Markets Tax Credit
NTCIC President Merrill Hoopengardner was a featured panelist on CohnReznick’s Legislative Update session at their New Markets Tax Credit Summit in Miami Beach, May 16-18.
Ms. Hoopengardner was one of four panelists to provide an update on what is happening in the legislative world of the NMTC. Moderated by Bob Moss of CohnReznick, this panel dove into the bubble in DC to explore all of the layers and nuances of the legislative process and priorities – there are more of them now than ever before. Ms. Hoopengardner and others explored what is happening outside the bubble in communities that are the beneficiaries of the NMTC and many other community development programs.
“It is critical for those of us who participate in the industry to make sure members of Congress see what we see – that the credit is bringing capital into low-income communities and improving lives for those who need it the most. Our projects don’t have signs on the side that say ‘brought to you by the NMTC’ – we have to connect the dots,” said Ms. Hoopengardner.
